I didn't get the idea myself, but after finding it, I developed the following method:
Facebook.com Wrote:Please use this form to request the removal of a deceased person's account or for memorialization special requests. We extend our condolences and appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process. Unrelated inquires received through this channel may not receive a response. To protect the privacy of people on Facebook, we cannot provide anyone with login information for accounts.
This is the link where the magic will happen:
- But first - go to gmail, and register an account using a fake name, with the same last name as theirs. This name will be used as "your full name" later on. I always try to create the email account as firstname.lastname@gmail.com, just to make things more believable.
- On the page, linked to above, all you have to do is fill in the info like so:
Code:
Your full name: Albus Smith
Your email address: projectalbus@gmail.com
Full name on the deceased person's account: John Q. Smith
Account email address of the deceased person: *This isn't necessary - but helps if you know it*
Web address (URL) of the timeline: **This one is necessary** - Check that you are an immediate family member.
- Then check to remove the account.
- For the proof that you are a family member, we're going to upload a
death certificate - which thanks to the CDC is conveniently located
here:
- Print out / fill out / scan in or take a picture of the completed copy, and upload that to the form.
Make sure that you use the instructions provided with the form to verify that it's filled out correctly. - Fill in the additional info box.
Don't be afraid of creativity - but make sure to stress that it pains you to see your deceased brother's account every time you log in, and that the family has decided it would be best removed.
I've had successful removals, just let me know how it works for you.
